A San Francisco Treat

In August, Emily and I enjoyed a day exploring San Francisco with Stephanie and Shawn while we were in the area for Liora and Gabe’s wedding.  On this typical San Francisco day, the weather was chilly and foggy in the morning before the sun peaked through the fog.

The first areas explored were the Haight and the Castro, which were full of interesting characters.  The two of us (Rob & Shawn) were also able to relax with the San Francisco sisters before taking in the city at the aptly named Buena Vista Park.

We got back together with the girls in the early afternoon to explore Columbus street – stopping every 10 feet or so for food.  It was a yummy afternoon with the sites of San Francisco all around us.  To burn off these calories we zigged and zagged our way down Lombard Street while dodging crazy individuals who were skateboarding down the hill.

Before too long, the Ghirardelli chocolate factory called out to the girls who indulged in free samples and some hot chocolate to warm up.  From here we looked out at the harbor where Alcatraz is located.  We think Stephanie wanted to go there, but we’re not sure.  I think Shawn is planning a surprise trip to the prison the next time they’re out there.

Instead of heading out into the harbor, we took in the Golden Gate Bridge with a walk down by the water and then explored the beaches to the west of the bridge.  After enjoying the sounds of the waves lapping on the beach, we went to enjoy even more food at a local Asian restaurant.  A delicious sushi dinner capped off this wonderful day of exploring and enjoying some of the last days of summer.
