California Vacation: Monterey Aquarium

From Carmel-by-the-Sea we were able to explore the wonders of the Monterey Peninsula. Our first adventure took us a little north to the Monterey Aquarium. It is full of all types of maritime animals including sharks, penguins, sea nettles, and sea otters. We also learned that it was the sardine industry that put Monterey on the map. If the colorful arrays of the ocean’s fish or the interactive kelp exhibit weren’t enough, you could look out to sea and try to glimpse of one of the animals in its natural habitat. We did this and much to Emily’s delight, we saw a sea otter. Before leaving, we took in a sea otter feeding at the tank. While we didn’t get to feed them like we did in Vancouver it was pretty neat to watch them do tricks and glide across the water on their backs with food. Check out some of the photos below and the rest at our gallery.
