Washington Capitals vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

Heather’s fiancee is from Toronto and when we found out the Maple Leafs were to play the Capitals over winter break we invited them down.  This game came at the end of our whirlwind Christmas break (Chagrin, Ohio, Niagara Falls, Philly), but it was fun.  Before the game we were surprised to find out the Mike Gartner’s number 11 would be retired.  We enjoyed the ceremony before the start of the game.

The game was dominated by the Capitals at the beginning before the Maple Leafs scored a quick goal at the opposite end.  In the second period the Capitals tied it up before Ovechkin scored with a couple seconds left in the period.  The third saw a back and forth game, but the Capitals opened the lead up to 3-1 before adding an empty netter just before the final buzzer.  Here is the AP’s account and here are all the photos before and during the game.

  1. Nice! I enjoyed the quick read. Love the Capitals and hate the Leafs. I especially liked the part where Grabovski got in a exchange of words with Ovechkin and having O-V show how to get things done! Great Caps win.
