Dara & Christiaan’s Wedding
A couple weeks ago we attended the beautiful wedding of Dara and Christiaan. The day was perfect – a sparkling blue sky and just a hint of fall crispness in the air. The wedding was wonderful! Everyone was so happy to be there, and it was a great chance to reunite with friends we hadn’t seen in a long time.
This was our first time back to Dahlgren Chapel since our wedding in April. Seeing another couple at the front of the chapel was a much different experience, but it also made us remember how happy we were on our special day. The service was beautiful and the homily touched everyone’s hearts when Fr. King spoke about the miracle of love. They also had a memorable vow…the priest forgot to have Dara say her part of the vows. After Christiaan said “I do” the priest went straight to the “You may kiss the bride.” Christiaan quietly whispered to the priest that Dara also needed to make her promises. It was a moment of gentle comic relief.
After the ceremony, we all gathered in the Dahlgren Quadrangle to congratulate the newlyweds and take some photos. Christiaan and Dara asked all the Georgetown alums to gather together. While the photographer was snapping away, we all sang the fight song. That will be a fun picture! A few photos were also taken of all the DPE brothers.
The reception was held at the James Monroe building in downtown DC. The cocktail hour was a great time to catch up with old acquaintances and meet new people. The back porch overlooked the beautiful courtyard that held all of our dinner tables. Alex Sanjenis was the MC and announced all the members of the wedding party as they entered. Dara and Christiaan came in at the end and went immediately went into their first dance.
Later, Dara’s father gave a touching toast about his daughter. Most eyes were a little moist during that speech! Both the maid of honor and best man gave toasts to the couple, sharing how much they loved them. Before dinner began, we were told that all of the food was made from the Canzano family’s secret recipes. What a treat! We enjoyed a wonderful Italian meal before dancing the evening away. Congratulations to Dara and Christiaan!
